the challenge The ever-growing pool of data online makes it difficult for pharmacists to stay updated with new local initiatives and tools on a regular basis. Especially when it comes to references which are not regular used. Note-taking apps like Evernote and Notion can help on an individual basis but a crowdsourced solution where pharmacists can come together to create a database is not available yet
the solution We created an interactive digital library of pharmacy references with a modern and minimalist interface and comprehensive tag system to help organise and retrieve information easily. A short form allows contributors to easily submit new references which allows the database to grow faster and create engagement within the community.

We began with clear design goals to make sure we could meet the needs of our target audience (pharmacists, pharmacy students and other health professionals) and create a platform where they could to easily collect useful references with minimal effort.

  • Create a comprehensive repository : Curate a diverse collection of credible references
  • User-friendliness : Create an intuitive platform for easy navigation and search
  • Responsive : Ensure the platform is accessible across various devices
  • Branding : Produce a clean, uncluttered and memorable visual identity

Several features of our design focused on ensuring discoverability

As we were expected that the database will eventually contain hundreds of references, we focused on creating a robust and exhaustive tagging system and tab navigation system. These allow the references to be displayed directly to the viewer in an intuitive way allowing for increased discoverability while keeping a clean layout which helps decrease cognitive burden.

Sticky tabs and navigation allow the user to navigate throughout the database without having to scroll up and down the long list of database entries. A list of favourite references is also displayed at the top of the page with a visually distinctive background colour for quick navigation.

A distinct background colour help differentiates guidelines from clinical tools.

We value community knowledge and wanted to make it easy to work together

A quick form allows community members to suggest new references to add to the database and a newsletter makes it easy to receive news and updates on the platform.

We know that pharmacy is a dynamic profession and a desktop might not always be accessible

Our platform is responsive and accessible on both mobile and desktop for quick on-the-go reference
